Sam Houston High School

Sam Houston High School, home to the Broncos, serves over 1,190 students across Calcasieu Parish and has earned regional recognition for its success in preparing students for college. The school achieved a College Success Award in both 2019 and 2021, reflecting its strong commitment to post-secondary readiness. With 60% of students proficient in reading and 55% proficient in mathematics, the school offers AP courses with a 23% participation rate, along with comprehensive honors and career programs designed to support diverse student pathways.

The high school features impressive facilities including a football, baseball, and softball stadium, separate boys' and girls' basketball gymnasiums, an athletic fieldhouse, and an agricultural education building. These modern facilities were largely completed during a major renovation cycle from 2010-2012, which also added a new library and courtyard. The Broncos athletics program competes in the LHSAA across football, basketball, baseball, track and field, and other sports, with a recorded history of playoff appearances dating back to 1967.

Sam Houston's campus was originally established in 1961 to serve the Moss Bluff area north of English Bayou, inheriting traditions from the predecessor Gillis High School. The school's student-teacher ratio of 15:1 and diverse course offerings ensure that students can find academic and extracurricular pathways aligned with their interests and college or career goals.
