Westlake High School

Westlake High School, home of the Rams, boasts a distinguished 112-year history dating to its establishment in 1914, making it one of the oldest continuously operating high schools in Calcasieu Parish. The school's iconic campus history includes the original "yellow brick building" on Sulphur Avenue (where the school was first organized by S.P. Arnett), a "red brick building" auditorium/gymnasium added in 1936, and subsequent expansions in 1949. The current Garden Drive campus opened in January 1967, and the original Sulphur Avenue location became home to S.P. Arnett Middle School, creating a unique educational legacy within the parish.

Today, Westlake High School serves 493 students in grades 9-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 11:1, providing personalized instruction in a medium-sized high school environment. The school ranks within the top 50% of Louisiana schools for overall test scores, with math and reading proficiency rates between 35-39% and 50-54% respectively—both exceeding Louisiana state averages. Advanced Placement courses are offered with a 34% participation rate, and students access Gifted & Talented programming for advanced learners. The school's first yearbook, "Big Horn," was published in 1946, marking the beginning of traditions including homecoming and organized football that continue today.
